Frequently asked questions about Custom Rear Window Graphics, Printed From Your Design
Yes in daylight, with a little loss. The print sits on the solid part of the film and the holes stay open, so from inside you look out at a slightly screened view, like looking through a window screen. At night it depends on which side is brighter. Looking out from a dark cabin toward headlights and streetlights still works; looking from a lit cabin toward a dark lot is harder, so keep the dome light off while reversing. Your mirrors and backup camera are not affected because neither looks through the film.
The numbers are the share of film to holes. A 50/50 film is half holes, so the view out is brighter and the print is a little lighter, because less film carries ink. A 70/30 film is 70 percent film and 30 percent holes, so the print is bolder and the view out is a little dimmer. Both read as a full graphic from the street. We match the film to the job and show it on your proof: a photo or small lettering leans toward more film, a bold one-color design is happy on either. If you have a preference, put it in the order notes.
Measure the glass, not the rubber. Width is the widest point of the glass from edge to edge and height is the tallest point, both in inches, measured from the outside of the vehicle. On curved glass, run a soft tape along the curve rather than straight across. Round each number up to the next half inch and type them in as a custom size. If you want trim room, add an inch to each number and trim the film flush with a sharp blade after it is on. If your glass has a wiper or a third brake light, say so in the notes and we plan the cutout on the proof.
In Texas, yes for most vehicles. The Texas DPS window standards exempt side windows behind the driver, and the rear window has no restriction when the vehicle has an outside mirror on each side that gives a view 200 feet behind. Most cars, trucks and SUVs have both mirrors, so a full rear window graphic is allowed. Read the standard yourself at https://www.dps.texas.gov/section/vehicle-inspection/window-tinting-standards . Other states differ; this isn't legal advice. If you drive across state lines for work, check the rule in the state where the vehicle is registered.
No. The film goes on the outside of the glass and the defroster grid is on the inside surface, so the film does not touch it. Apply the graphic from the outside and remove it from the outside, and the defroster never comes into it. Clean the outside of the glass before application, apply on a mild day, and leave the inside of the window alone. The one thing to plan around on the outside is a rear wiper, which needs a cutout, and we mark that on your proof.

How to measure your rear window
Measure the glass only, not the rubber gasket or the trim around it. Run a tape across the widest point of the glass for the width, then top to bottom at the tallest point for the height.
Round each number up to the next half inch. A graphic that is a touch big can be trimmed on the glass with a sharp blade. One that is a touch small leaves a clear strip at the edge.
If the glass has a wiper, a brake light, or a defroster connector, note where it sits. We leave those areas clear on the proof so nothing is covered.
The 24 x 48 and 18 x 58 presets cover most cars, SUVs and vans. Pick custom and type your own numbers when they don't.

Install basics for a rear window
- 1Wash the outside of the glass with soap and water, then wipe it with rubbing alcohol. Any dust under the film shows as a bump.
- 2Dry-fit the graphic on the glass and mark the top corners with small pieces of masking tape.
- 3Peel back a few inches of the liner at the top, line the film up with your marks, and press that strip down.
- 4Pull the liner down a little at a time and squeegee from the center out, overlapping each stroke, so no air is trapped.
- 5Trim any excess along the edge of the glass with a sharp blade, then squeegee the whole piece once more, pressing hard on the edges.
- 6Let it sit 24 hours before a car wash. Hand wash is fine at any time.

Custom Rear Window Graphics, Printed From Your Design, Printed to Order
Upload your own design and we print it on perforated window film sized to the rear glass of any car, truck or SUV. A one-color piece prints as cleanly as a photo: a customer's green mountains, pines and three crosses is exactly the kind of art this film was made for. From outside, the window shows your full-color graphic. From the driver's seat you look out through thousands of small holes, and the brighter outside view wins. A 24 by 48 inch graphic is $117.69 on plain film or $139.09 laminated, 18 by 58 is $117.69, and any size can be typed in. Business owners use the same film to turn a van or SUV back window into a moving ad with a phone number big enough to read at a stoplight. Free proof, 48-hour production after approval, flat $10 shipping.
