What Standard Brochure Sizes Can You Order?
Inline Graphics sells three brochure sizes and folds: 8.5 x 11 half-fold, 8.5 x 11 trifold, and 8.5 x 14 trifold. 250 brochures in either 8.5 x 11 fold, on 70# text stock with full color on both sides, cost $246.09, plus flat $10 ground shipping to any US address.
Across the three sold configurations, the closed height remains 8.5 inches while finished width ranges from about 3.67 to 5.5 inches. The right comparison begins with the flat sheet, then accounts for the width after folding.
Every format on the custom brochure printing page uses 70# text stock, full-color printing on both sides, and a fold selected before production. The printed panel count includes every panel face across the outside and inside of the sheet.
| Flat sheet and fold | Printed panels | Finished size |
|---|---|---|
| 8.5 x 11 Half-Fold | 4 | 5.5 x 8.5 in |
| 8.5 x 11 Tri-Fold | 6 | About 3.67 x 8.5 in |
| 8.5 x 14 Tri-Fold | 6 | About 4.67 x 8.5 in |
The trifold measurements are nominal, not a file-building formula. The panel that tucks inside can be narrower than an exact third. Confirm the panel widths for the selected size and fold during setup and on the digital proof.

What Is the Difference Between Flat and Finished Brochure Size?
Flat size describes the open sheet before folding, while finished size describes the closed piece a reader holds, stores, mails, or places in a rack. Both measurements are needed to choose and design the brochure correctly.
The flat dimension controls the total printed canvas. The 8.5 x 11 half-fold and 8.5 x 11 trifold start with identical sheet area. Their folds divide that canvas differently. The half-fold produces four broad printed panels. The trifold produces six narrow printed panels. More panels create more sections, but they do not add paper.
Finished width controls physical fit. A 5.5-inch-wide half-fold may work well as a handout or packet insert but is too wide for a typical 4-inch brochure pocket. A nominal 3.67-inch-wide letter trifold is built for a slimmer display. The legal trifold closes to about 4.67 inches wide, so it needs a wider holder.
Which Brochure Size Fits a Typical 4 x 9 Rack?
Measure the holder first: the 8.5 x 11 trifold, nominally 3.67 x 8.5 inches when closed, is the sold format that fits the usual width of a 4 x 9 literature rack whose usable inside width is at least 4 inches.
A rack described as 4 inches wide may have side walls, molded corners, or a front lip that reduces usable space. Measure the narrowest inside width, not the outside dimension. Also measure the visible height above the lip. A brochure can fit the pocket yet hide its headline if the front wall covers too much of the design.
The 8.5 x 11 half-fold finishes 5.5 inches wide, which is wider than a 4-inch pocket. The 8.5 x 14 trifold finishes about 4.67 inches wide, so it is also too wide for that holder. For a piece that will remain flat in a rack, compare the brochure with rack card sizes and costs before deciding. Rack cards are a separate product with a different stock and reading pattern.
Place the key headline and business name in the area that remains visible. Contact information can sit lower, but the top must tell a passing reader what the piece is about.
Which Brochure Size Fits a #10 Envelope?
The nominal 3.67 x 8.5 inch letter trifold fits within a #10 envelope, while the 5.5-inch-wide half-fold and 4.67-inch-wide legal trifold are too wide. USPS lists a #10 envelope at 9.5 x 4.125 inches.
The USPS #10 envelope specification leaves clearance around a letter trifold's nominal closed dimensions. Before ordering envelopes, place a self-made paper mockup or office test print inside the exact envelope style. Window placement, seams, and the envelope's usable interior can affect how it loads and sits.
Size fit does not establish postage eligibility. The USPS Postal Explorer letter standards set limits for length, height, thickness, weight, shape, flexibility, and machinability. A letter-size piece may be up to 11.5 inches long, 6.125 inches high, and 0.25 inch thick, but other preparation rules still apply. Confirm the assembled mailpiece and current mailing requirements with USPS before postage is purchased.
Do not assume an unenveloped folded brochure qualifies as a self-mailer. Self-mailers have their own preparation standards. This guide addresses whether a brochure fits inside a #10 envelope, not whether the brochure can travel by itself or what rate it earns.
When Should You Choose an 8.5 x 11 Half-Fold?
Choose the 8.5 x 11 Half-Fold when a 5.5 x 8.5 inch closed piece and a broad interior spread support the message. It is the only half-fold configuration currently sold on the brochure page.
Its four printed panels suit a concise presentation. The cover introduces the topic, the interior can pair a large visual with a short explanation, and the back carries the response path. It also works when a chart, comparison, or plan should be understood across one open spread rather than separated into narrow columns.
The half-fold is too wide for a typical 4-inch brochure rack and a #10 envelope. Plan it as a handout, packet insert, counter piece, or mailed item in appropriately sized packaging. If the design must fit a standard business envelope, use the letter trifold instead.
When Should You Choose an 8.5 x 11 Trifold?
Choose the 8.5 x 11 Tri-Fold when six compact panels, a nominal 3.67 x 8.5 inch finish, or a typical rack and #10 envelope fit matters. It is the most compact sold brochure configuration.
The narrow panels work best with short headings, brief paragraphs, and one topic per surface. A service list can be separated into categories without turning the open spread into a wall of copy. The folds also create a controlled reveal, so the outside panel order and inside sequence should be planned before design begins.
Use the brochure fold and panel walkthrough to check how outside artwork becomes the cover, back, and tuck panel. Nominal 3.67-inch thirds are useful for size comparison, but the exact panel widths must be confirmed during file setup and on the digital proof.
When Should You Choose an 8.5 x 14 Trifold?
Choose the 8.5 x 14 Tri-Fold when the brochure needs six panels with about 4.67 inches of nominal width per panel. It offers more room within each section than the letter trifold.
That width can support longer service explanations, wider photographs, a short price list, or more comfortable spacing. It remains 8.5 inches high when folded, but its closed width changes where it can be displayed or enclosed. It will not fit a typical 4-inch rack or a #10 envelope.
The legal trifold should still be edited panel by panel. Extra width helps readability, but it does not remove the need for hierarchy. Start with the main action, assign one role to each panel, and keep critical details away from the creases.
If a project requires a different flat size or a fold beyond these three configurations, request a custom print quote. Do not resize a finished layout into another format without rebuilding its panel map.
How Much Do Standard Brochures Cost?
Both 8.5 x 11 folds cost $246.09 for 250 brochures and $460.09 for 2,500, while the 8.5 x 14 trifold starts at $331.69 for 250. Every total covers 70# Text Stock printed full color on both sides.
| 8.5 x 11 quantity | Total price |
|---|---|
| 250 | $246.09 |
| 500 | $256.79 |
| 750 | $267.49 |
| 1,000 | $278.19 |
| 2,500 | $460.09 |
| 8.5 x 14 quantity | Total price |
|---|---|
| 250 | $331.69 |
| 500 | $417.29 |
| 750 | $449.39 |
| 1,000 | $470.79 |
| 1,500 | $620.59 |
| 2,000 | $674.09 |
| 2,500 | $706.19 |
On a letter sheet, the fold does not change the price, so pick the half-fold or trifold on layout alone. The legal sheet does change it, so a letter-size total should not be applied to an 8.5 x 14 order. The 1,500 and 2,000 packs exist only on the 8.5 x 14 trifold.
Brochures are printed in the USA, with production taking 3 to 5 business days after artwork approval, followed by transit. Every order receives a free digital proof after ordering and before print. Ground shipping costs a flat $10 per order to any US address.
How Should Artwork Be Prepared for Each Brochure Size?
Any accepted file works for every brochure size: PDF, AI, PSD, EPS, JPG, PNG, SVG, TIFF, WEBP or HEIC, including a Canva export or a phone photo. After you order, Inline Graphics prepares the size, bleed, resolution, and color, then sends a free digital proof.
If you build the file yourself, add 0.125 inch of bleed on each edge: an 8.5 x 11 inch sheet becomes an 8.75 x 11.25 inch artwork file, and an 8.5 x 14 inch sheet becomes an 8.75 x 14.25 inch artwork file. Confirm the exact panel widths for the selected fold on the digital proof. A trifold tuck panel may be narrower than an equal third, so nominal finished widths should not be used as production guides.
Label each folded role before final design. Keep text, logos, faces, and QR codes clear of trim and fold lines. Extend background color or imagery as directed by the template, and review the file at actual size. Then fold a paper mockup to confirm the cover, reveal order, and final response panel.
The size choice should be settled before copy is finalized. Moving a design from a half-fold to a trifold changes every panel width and often changes the reading order. Rebuild the layout for the new structure rather than shrinking each element.
For a smaller flat mailing piece, compare standard postcard sizes. For brochures and other collateral, the print marketing collection shows the available online products.

Frequently Asked Questions
The sold configurations are 8.5 x 11 Half-Fold, 8.5 x 11 Tri-Fold, and 8.5 x 14 Tri-Fold. Each is printed full color on both sides of 70# text stock.
An 8.5 x 11 letter sheet folded as a trifold finishes at approximately 3.67 x 8.5 inches. The tuck panel may be slightly narrower, so those nominal thirds are not production panel guides.
An 8.5 x 11 letter sheet folded in half finishes at 5.5 x 8.5 inches. It has four printed panels, with two broad panel faces on each side of the sheet.
An 8.5 x 14 legal sheet folded as a trifold finishes at approximately 4.67 x 8.5 inches. It creates six printed panels with more nominal width than a letter trifold.
The nominal 3.67 x 8.5 inch letter trifold is the sold brochure format suited to a typical 4 x 9 rack. Measure the holder's usable inside width and front-lip height before ordering a large run.
A nominal 3.67 x 8.5 inch letter trifold fits within a #10 envelope measuring 4.125 x 9.5 inches. Envelope fit alone does not establish a postage rate or satisfy every mailing rule.
On 70# Text Stock, printed full color on both sides, 250 8.5 x 11 brochures cost $246.09 as a half-fold or a trifold, and 250 8.5 x 14 trifolds cost $331.69. Production takes 3 to 5 business days after artwork approval.
