Are Vinyl Stickers Waterproof?

Yes. Inline Graphics prints vinyl decals on plastic film, so rain and a car wash do not soak the print. Up to 25 contour-cut 2 x 2 in 3M IJ-35C decals with gloss laminate cost $52.09 in total. Production is 48 hours after proof approval, with flat $10 shipping to any US address.

Without laminate the print is still waterproof, and it scratches more easily. Laminate is a clear cover over that print. It is not the layer that keeps rain out.

Water matters on one day only, the day you put the decal on: the surface should be clean and dry, and the first wash should wait a day or two so the adhesive can set.

Both films on the custom vinyl decals page carry an outdoor rating of up to 5 years. That rating is not a dishwasher claim, a pool claim, or a claim that the decal can sit underwater. The site makes none of those.

What Makes a Vinyl Sticker Waterproof?

A vinyl sticker is waterproof because the print is on plastic film, not because a coating was sprayed on paper.

Paper takes water into the sheet. The ink then moves, the face cockles, and the sticker lets go. Vinyl does not work that way. The face is a plastic film, the image is printed on that film, and water sits on the outside instead of soaking through. A hose on a finished decal does not rinse the ink off the film.

Inline Graphics prints two 3M films on this product. IJ-35C is for flat, smooth surfaces: walls, windows, and doors. IJ-180Cv3 is cast vinyl for vehicles, curves, and rivets. IJ-35C on a curve can lift, which is a failed bond, not a film that let water in. The vinyl decal material guide compares the two films. The decal arrives on the full sheet for you to weed. It is not a bag of loose pieces.

What Does Laminate Add to a Waterproof Decal?

Laminate adds a clear layer over the print so scuffs and UV take the design less. It does not create the waterproofing.

Gloss and matte laminate are the same price. No laminate costs less. A 24 x 36 in 3M IJ-35C contour-cut decal is $148.39 with gloss laminate and $137.69 with no laminate. The unlaminated decal is still waterproof. The print is simply easier to scratch, and sun reaches the ink sooner.

Use laminate on anything outdoors, on a vehicle, or in a place hands will rub. A bumper sticker on this site is a different vinyl, and the default build includes gloss laminate for the same reason: road grit and wash brushes hit the cover, not the ink. The film underneath is still what keeps water out.

What Actually Ends a Vinyl Decal?

Sun, abrasion, a bad surface, and a wash that comes too soon are what end a decal. Water on a cured, laminated film is not the usual failure.

Sun works on the ink across the years the film is rated for. Abrasion is bags, brushes, grit, and a pressure washer held up close to an edge. As a general practice, keep that wand off the edge. The product page does not publish a safe distance.

A bad surface fails the bond even when the film itself is sound. Dust, wax, oil, heavy texture, and a curve paired with the flat film (IJ-35C) let an edge lift. Once an edge is up, water can get under the adhesive. That is a lifting decal, not a decal whose print dissolved.

Washing too soon is the application mistake. Put the decal on a clean, dry surface and wait a day or two before the first wash. The adhesive needs that time. A wash on day one can push water under an edge that has not set.

The up-to-5-year outdoor rating is the film's rating. It is not a promise that a decal on a chalky wall, a fresh paint film, or the wrong curve will still look new at year five. When it is time to take one off, the removal guide covers peeling without guessing at solvents.

How Long Are 3M Vinyl Films Rated to Last Outdoors?

Both 3M IJ-35C and 3M IJ-180Cv3 are rated for up to 5 years outdoors.

"Up to" is the honest part of that sentence. Shade, laminate, and a dry application on a sound surface stretch life toward the rating. Full sun, abrasion, and a poor surface shorten it. Inline Graphics does not add a warranty year on top of the film rating, and the site gives no dishwasher, pool, or underwater test.

IJ-35C belongs on flat surfaces. IJ-180Cv3 belongs on curves and rivets. The flat film on a curve can lift an edge long before five years. Removable bumper stickers are not these films, and that page claims no number of years.

Do Removable Bumper Stickers Hold Through a Car Wash?

Yes. Removable bumper stickers hold through weather and car washes, and they peel off clean without heat or solvent.

The vinyl is not paper, and the default build has a gloss laminate over the print, so rain, snow, a hose, and a car wash do not soak the ink. Removable describes how the sticker comes off when you pull it. It does not mean weather peels it off. Apply it to a clean, dry bumper and give it a day before the first wash. The bumper page uses "a day" for that first wash. The custom decal page uses "a day or two." Follow the page for the product you ordered.

Ten 3 x 11.5 in rectangle gloss bumper stickers are $64.19, about $6.42 each. The same ten with no laminate are $53.49. Contour cut on that 10-pack is $84.19, which includes the separate one-time $20 cut fee for that design. Sizes, packs, and the rectangle default are covered in bumper sticker sizes.

How Should You Care for a Vinyl Decal After It Is On?

Wait a day or two before the first wash, and do not aim a pressure washer up close at an edge.

The page's own instruction is the clean, dry surface and the day-or-two wait. Keeping a pressure washer off the edge is general practice. Hand washing is gentler on the laminate than a brush on the graphic. If an edge lifts, peel slowly. Bumper stickers are the product specified to come off without heat or solvent. The 3M films are a different adhesive, so use the removal guide before you pull one off a vehicle.

How Much Do Small Vinyl Decals Cost?

A contour-cut line never prices under $52.09, so a single tiny decal and a short run of the same decal often share one total.

Quantity is per line: one design, one size. The contour prices below already include the one-time $20 contour cut fee. Do not add $20 again. Rectangle cut has no cut fee. Every row is 3M IJ-35C with gloss laminate unless the row says otherwise. Production on this product is 48 hours after proof approval.

Item and details Price
2 x 2 in, contour cut, gloss, any quantity from 1 to 25 (line floor; about $2.08 each at 25) $52.09
2 x 2 in, contour cut, gloss, 50 $62.79
2 x 2 in, contour cut, gloss, 100 (about $0.84 each) $84.19
3 x 3 in, contour cut, gloss, 1 to 10 $52.09
3 x 3 in, contour cut, gloss, 100 (about $1.59 each) $159.09
4 x 4 in, contour cut, gloss, 1 $52.09
3 x 3 in, rectangle cut, gloss, 50 (no contour fee) $74.89
12 x 12 in, contour cut, gloss, one decal $52.09
12 x 12 in, rectangle cut, gloss, one decal $32.09
24 x 36 in, contour cut, gloss $148.39
24 x 36 in, contour cut, no laminate $137.69

The floor is why 1 piece and 25 pieces of a 2 x 2 in contour gloss decal are the same $52.09. The $20 contour fee does not shrink because the art is small. At 100 pieces that line is $84.19. A 12 x 12 in contour gloss decal on IJ-35C is also $52.09. The same 12 x 12 in as a rectangle, with no contour fee, is $32.09.

The size you pick is the box the shape is cut from. A leaf ordered at 2 x 2 in is a leaf that fits inside 2 x 2 in. IJ-180Cv3 contour gloss is higher on the larger sizes: a 12 x 12 in is $62.79 and a 24 x 24 in is $137.69. Use that film for curves. More sizes are on the product page. These rows are only the builds named here.

Which Stickers Does Inline Graphics Not Sell?

We do not sell paper stickers, small sheet stickers, labels on rolls, or stickers die cut through the backing into loose pieces.

What we sell here is vinyl decals on 3M IJ-35C or IJ-180Cv3, contour cut or rectangle cut, and removable-vinyl bumper stickers. Decals ship on the full vinyl sheet with the cut lines plotted. You weed the extra vinyl around the design. Transfer tape is not included, and most applications need it. In shop language the cut is through the vinyl, not the backing.

There is no holographic, glitter, or clear option on this product, and there is no roll format. If you need paper stickers, a roll of labels, or loose pieces cut through the backing, say so on the contact page and we will quote it or point you to the closest product we do print. The family of decal products is listed under stickers and decals.

How Do Artwork, the Proof, and the 48 Hours Work?

There is no production setup fee. A file or image you already have is made print ready through AI image to print for $14.99 per item, once per cart line, not once per side.

Design it for me is $29.99 and includes two revisions. It is free only when that item is $499 or more. The decals in the table are under $499, so design on those lines is $29.99. We do not offer a free online design tool, and we do not send a proof before the order.

The free digital proof comes after you order and before anything prints. Production is 48 hours after you approve that proof. The clock does not start at checkout, and it does not include transit. A fast reply on the proof is the timing you control. Printed in the USA, ships nationwide, flat $10 to any US address.
