Two green and white aluminum parking signs on metal posts mark customer parking and 15 minute pickup spaces in front of a brick hardware store.

What Size Should an Aluminum Parking Sign Be?

A 12" x 18" Aluminum Sign is $74.89. Artwork prep is $14.99 per item. Printed in the USA in 3 business days and shipped nationwide, flat $10 shipping to any US address. Most reserved and no parking signs use that size. Ours are printed, not reflective, and posts are sold separately.

Most parking signs in the US are 12 x 18 inches, set tall. That is the size of the familiar reserved, no parking and tow away signs on posts in front of offices, stores and apartment lots. Larger lots, or signs read from across the lot, step up to 18 x 24 inches.

Our aluminum sign comes in 12 stock sizes, set tall or wide, plus custom sizes priced by area. These are the sizes that fit parking jobs:

Size Typical parking use
12 x 18 in, set tall Reserved space, no parking, tow away, visitor parking
18 x 24 in, set tall Lot entrance rules, tow away notice read from a distance
10 x 14 in, set tall A single reserved space on a short post or wall
12 x 12 in Space numbers, compact car, electric vehicle charging
6 x 24 in or 24 x 6 in A one line reserved strip on a wall or curb stop post
24 x 36 in Lot rules board at an entrance

A 12 x 18 inch panel holds a short headline, two or three lines of detail and a small logo with room to spare. Past four or five lines, step up a size rather than shrinking the type.

How Much Does an Aluminum Parking Sign Cost?

An aluminum sign starts at $59.99 for 10 x 14 inches, and the product page opens on the 12 x 18 inch parking size: A 12" x 18" Aluminum Sign is $74.89. Artwork prep is $14.99 per item. Printed in the USA in 3 business days and shipped nationwide, flat $10 shipping to any US address.

Two options change the total. Drilled holes add a flat amount per sign, whichever pattern you choose, and rounded corners add a small amount per sign. A second printed side costs more than one side. The product page shows the total for every combination before you pay, and shipping is a flat $10 per product to any US address.

If you are ordering a set, such as one sign per reserved space, order each design as its own item so every sign gets its own proof. Artwork prep through AI image to print is $14.99 per item. Design it for me is $29.99 with two revisions, free on an item of $499 or more.

Are Printed Aluminum Parking Signs Reflective?

No. Our aluminum signs carry a UV printed vinyl face on .040 inch aluminum. The colors are bright and the sign reads clearly in daylight and under parking lot lights, but it does not bounce headlights back toward the driver the way reflective sheeting does. We do not offer a reflective version.

That matters in two cases:

  1. A rule asks for reflectivity. Some signs facing public roads, and some city or property rules, call for reflective sheeting. Check before you order.
  2. The lot is dark at night. If drivers need to read the sign by headlights alone, a reflective sign is the better tool.

For a reserved space by an office door, a customer parking sign at a store, or a tow away notice under lot lighting, a printed aluminum sign does the job, and it costs less than reflective sign work.

What Should a Parking Sign Say?

A parking sign should say who may park, and what happens if someone else does, in as few words as possible. A driver reads it while turning in, so the first line carries the rule and everything else supports it.

A clear order for a 12 x 18 inch sign:

  1. Headline: RESERVED, NO PARKING, VISITOR PARKING or CUSTOMER PARKING ONLY.
  2. Who or when: For Maple Street Bakery Customers, or 7 AM to 6 PM Monday to Friday.
  3. Consequence: Violators Will Be Towed at Owner's Expense.
  4. Contact or owner: the property manager name and phone number, if your state or towing company asks for it.

Tow away signs are governed by state and local towing rules, which often specify wording, a towing company name and phone number, and placement. Ask your towing company for its requirements before you write the sign. Accessible parking signs also have federal, state and local rules on the symbol, the wording and the mounting height, so confirm them for your site. We print the artwork you approve; the rules for what the sign must say belong to your location.

How Do You Mount a Parking Sign on a Post?

Choose the center top and bottom hole pattern for a single post, and bolt the sign through both holes. That pattern lines up with the holes in standard U-channel and square sign posts, which is why most parking signs use it.

The aluminum sign page offers four hole patterns: all four corners, top corners, center top and bottom, or a custom layout. All four corners suits a wall or a pair of posts. Rounded corners, at 1/8, 1/4, 3/8 or 1/2 inch radius, are worth choosing on a sign at shoulder height beside a parking space, where people walk past it every day.

Posts, bolts and anchors are not included. Use stainless or coated bolts with a washer behind the sign so the bolt head cannot pull through the metal. Set the post deep enough that a bumper nudge does not lean it, and keep the sign where a car door will not swing into it.

How Long Does an Aluminum Parking Sign Last?

Our .040 aluminum sign will not rust and carries a 5+ year outdoor durability guarantee. That makes it the right panel for a sign that stays on its post through every season.

The parts around it age faster. A plain steel bolt can rust and streak the face, a post can lean after a hit, and sprinklers can spot the lower edge. Check parking signs once or twice a year, tighten any loose bolts, and replace a bent post before it drops the sign.

If a sign needs to change often, such as event parking, a coroplast yard sign on an H-stake costs less and moves easily. A standard 18 x 24 inch coroplast sign is $64.99, printed the next business day.

How Many Parking Signs Does a Lot Need?

Count one sign per reserved space, plus one rules sign at each entrance a driver can use. A small office lot with four reserved spaces and one driveway needs five signs: four 12 x 18 inch reserved signs and one 18 x 24 inch lot rules sign by the entrance.

Walk the lot the way a driver does before you order. Stand at each entrance and ask whether the rules sign is the first thing you see after the turn. Then pull into each reserved space and check that its sign sits at the head of the space, not beside the next one. Signs between two spaces confuse drivers about which space they cover.

A simple list makes the order easy: space or location, size, wording, and hole pattern. Picture Summit Property Management setting up a small medical building lot: six reserved patient spaces, two staff spaces and one tow away notice at the only entrance. That is nine signs, three designs, all bolted to single posts with the center top and bottom pattern.

What Should You Check on the Proof?

Check the hole positions, the wording and the orientation on the free digital proof. Nothing prints until you approve it.

  1. Holes clear of text. Picture a bolt head at each hole. Keep the headline and phone number away from them.
  2. Set tall or wide. Parking signs on a single post are almost always set tall. Choose 12 x 18, not 18 x 12, unless you want it wide.
  3. Required wording. Compare tow away and accessible parking text with the rules you collected, word for word.
  4. One design per space. If spaces are numbered or named, check each sign's number on its own proof.
