Is a Vinyl or Mesh Banner Better for Your Location?
A 6' × 3' Mesh Banner is $154. Artwork prep is $14.99 per item. Printed in the USA in 3 business days and shipped nationwide, flat $10 shipping to any US address. Choose mesh for fences and open windy spans, and solid vinyl, from $64.19, for walls, railings and indoor spaces.
Mesh is better for a chain link fence, a construction fence or any open span where wind hits the full face, and solid vinyl is better against a wall, on a railing, indoors or anywhere the image has to look its boldest. A solid vinyl banner starts at $64.19.

Start with where the banner will hang and how much wind it will take. The answer to that one question picks the material most of the time.

How Much Do Vinyl and Mesh Banners Cost?
Solid vinyl starts at $64.19 and mesh starts at $64.19 for the smallest size. At the 6 x 3 ft size each product page opens on, the two compare like this. A 6' × 3' 13oz Standard Custom Printed Banner is $133. Artwork prep is $14.99 per item. Printed in the USA in 3 business days and shipped nationwide, flat $10 shipping to any US address. A 6' × 3' Mesh Banner is $154. Artwork prep is $14.99 per item. Printed in the USA in 3 business days and shipped nationwide, flat $10 shipping to any US address. How Does a Mesh Banner Handle Wind?
A mesh banner handles wind by letting part of it through. The 9 oz mesh is woven with small open holes, and the product page notes that the perforation lets roughly 30 percent of the wind pass through while the message stays visible. On a long fence run that means less pull on each tie and less flapping than a solid sheet of the same size.
Mesh does not make a fence banner safe in every condition. The fence, its posts and the ties still carry the load, and no banner has a wind rating that covers every site. Tie off every grommet, check the ties after a windy day, and take the banner down ahead of a storm.
Solid vinyl can take wind slits, small cuts that let some air through. They help a little, but they are not the same as mesh, and a solid banner on an exposed fence still catches far more wind than a perforated one.
Will a Mesh Banner Look Different From Solid Vinyl?
Yes. Mesh has open holes across the whole surface, so daylight and whatever is behind the fence show through the print. Up close the image looks like a fine screen; from across a parking lot or a ball field it reads as a solid banner.
That changes how you design for it. Big bold letters, high contrast and simple shapes work on mesh. Thin lines, small type, fine photo detail and light colors on a busy background lose clarity. Solid vinyl holds all of that, which is why a menu, a photo heavy design or a banner read from a few feet away belongs on vinyl.

Which Finishing Options Do Vinyl and Mesh Share?
Both come with hems and grommets as standard. The hem is the edge folded back and stitched, and the grommets are metal rings at the corners and about every 2 feet along the edges. Both offer pole pockets on the top, bottom or both edges, which replace the grommets.
The differences: wind slits are a solid vinyl option only, and printing on both sides is only on 18 oz Heavy Duty vinyl. Mesh is one sided. If a banner hangs where people see both faces, such as across a walkway, order 18 oz vinyl with a file for each side.
What Sizes Do Vinyl and Mesh Banners Come In?
Both come in the same 20 standard sizes on the product pages, from 2 x 3 ft up to 8 x 10 ft, and both can be ordered at a custom size. Solid vinyl adds two heavier weights, 15 oz Premium and 18 oz Heavy Duty, in 3 x 5, 3 x 6, 4 x 6, 4 x 8 and 5 x 10 ft.
| Use | Common size | Material that fits |
|---|---|---|
| Storefront wall or window | 3 x 6 or 4 x 8 ft | 13 oz or 15 oz vinyl |
| Chain link fence at a field or lot | 4 x 8 or 4 x 10 ft | 9 oz mesh |
| Construction fence run | 4 x 10 or 6 x 10 ft | 9 oz mesh |
| Banner seen from both sides | 3 x 6 or 4 x 8 ft | 18 oz vinyl, printed on both sides |
| Gym, lobby or sanctuary wall | 3 x 8 or 4 x 10 ft | 13 oz vinyl |
Measure the space first, post to post on a fence or edge to edge on a wall, and leave room for a tie at each corner. Then size the headline to the reading distance, about 1 inch of capital letter height for every 10 feet. Our banner size and viewing distance guide has the chart.
How Should You Design Artwork for Mesh?
Design for mesh as if the banner will be read from across a field: big, bold and simple. Use a heavy sans serif font, a headline that fills most of the width, and a solid background color with strong contrast against the letters.
- Keep the main message to 7 words or fewer.
- Skip thin outlines, hairline rules and script fonts; the weave breaks them up.
- Avoid placing key words over a busy photo.
- Keep every word and logo at least 2 inches in from the edges, clear of the hem and grommets.
The same file can often print on both materials, but a design built for mesh almost always reads well on vinyl, while a detailed vinyl design can lose a lot on mesh.
When Does It Make Sense to Order Both?
Order both when one event has a fence and a wall. A youth league, for example, might hang a mesh sponsor banner on the outfield fence and a solid vinyl banner on the concession stand wall. Each is its own product in the cart, so each ships for a flat $10.
What to Check on Proofs for Fence Banners
Check the type size first on a mesh proof. A phone number set at the same size it would be on a flyer disappears into the weave at 30 feet, so we suggest making it bigger before approval.
Next, check for a design built for a wall placed on mesh: a soft photo background with a light gray headline over it. On a chain link fence with trees or a parking lot behind it, that headline is hard to find. A solid dark field with white type, or a white field with dark type, reads best on mesh.
Then check for a size picked before the fence was measured. Measure post to post, leave room for ties at each corner, and order the size that fits the run rather than the size that sounded right.
How Do You Order a Vinyl or Mesh Banner?
Pick the material from the location: mesh for a fence or open span, solid vinyl for a wall, a railing or indoors. Open the mesh banner page or the vinyl banner page, choose the size and finishing, and upload your file or use AI image to print.
Check the proof for spelling, the phone number and anything within 2 inches of the edge, then approve it. Both are printed in the USA in 3 business days after approval and ship to all 50 states for a flat $10 per product, with shipping transit on top. Frequently Asked Questions
Two constructions: solid and perforated. Solid vinyl comes in 13, 15 or 18 oz and gives a continuous print surface. Mesh is 9 oz perforated vinyl coated polyester, and the product page notes it lets roughly 30 percent of the wind pass through.

9 oz mesh is the usual pick for a chain link fence because the perforation lets air through instead of catching the whole face. It still needs a zip tie or bungee at every grommet and a fence that is sound, and it should come down ahead of a storm.
One side only: mesh banners are printed on one side. If a banner has to read from both directions, order 18 oz Heavy Duty vinyl, the only weight that prints on both sides.
2 finishing steps come standard on both: a hemmed edge and metal grommets. Both offer pole pockets in place of grommets, and wind slits are offered on solid vinyl only.
