Digital vs Physical Business Cards: Prices and Uses

When Does a Digital Card Help, and When Does a Printed Card Help?
Digital cards share and update instantly. Printed cards win in person, with no app. Inline Graphics prints 250 double-sided 16pt paper cards, 3.5 x 2 inches, for $74.89, not digital or NFC cards. Production is 48 hours after proof approval, with flat $10 shipping to any US address.
Pair them when you can. Put a QR code on the printed card that opens a contact page you control. The card handles the moment in the room. The page is the part you can change after the cards have already been handed out.
A hosted contact page you text or email is the right tool after a call, because you can update it in one place; a plain contact file you attach has to be resent when your details change. It needs a signal and a screen, and the other person has to save it. In a lobby, on a job site, or anywhere someone will not stop to open a phone, the card in their hand is the one that remains. A wrong number printed on that card stays wrong until you hand out a new one, which is why the code should point at a page you can edit.

What Do Digital Cards Do Well?
Hosted digital cards share remotely and update without a reprint. Change the number, the booking link, or the list of services on the page, and the next person who opens it sees the new version. You can send it to someone you will never meet, and they can save it without carrying paper.
Digital cards are a good fit for a follow-up after a call, a signature in an email, or a contact you would otherwise type into a phone from memory.
It is a weak fit when the moment is physical. A person at a counter, a fair, or a church lobby may not want to pull out a phone, scan, and create a contact while a line is moving. If the page is down, or the code was never saved, there is no card left behind.
We do not host digital cards, and we do not sell the app or the NFC tag that some digital systems use. If that is the only thing you need, we are the wrong shop for it. If you want the printed half of the pair, start with paper business cards or look through the business cards collection.
Where Does a Printed Card Win?
A printed card wins in the in-person moment: no app, no account, and something the other person can hold. It can sit on a desk after the conversation ends. A screen usually does not.
Paper cards on this page are 16pt cardstock with a full-color gloss finish. That is a sturdy card, not a thin slip. The standard trim size, bleed, and pixel counts are in the standard business card size guide, so this article will not repeat that spec sheet. What matters for the comparison is simple: the card is a physical object with a front and a back, and both sides print for the same price.
Aluminum cards are the other physical option. They are brushed metal, cut as cards, and printed in full color. People keep them because the card feels different from the stack they already have. They cost more per card, which is the point of the price table below, not a reason to pretend paper and metal are the same product. The paper versus metal business card guide goes further on that material choice.
A printed card does not update itself. If you print 1,000 cards with a direct phone number and then change the number, the old cards are wrong. That is the problem a QR code is there to shrink.
How Does a QR Code Give You Both?
Print the card, and point a QR code at a contact page you control. The person can call from the card immediately. They can also scan and land on a page you can edit later: a new number, a booking link, a short list of services.
The code is artwork on the card. We print it. We do not build the page it opens, and we do not sell an NFC chip inside the card. If the page moves, update the page or reprint. A code that points at a dead link is worse than no code.
Because single-sided and double-sided paper cards are the same price, the back is the natural place for the code. You are already paying for 250 double-sided 16pt cards at $74.89 whether the back is blank or useful. Use the back.
Keep the code large enough to scan, with quiet space around it. Check the destination on the proof, then scan an actual-size printout of the card before you approve, because a code that scans on a screen can still be too small on paper.
How Much Do Paper and Aluminum Cards Cost From 50 to 1,000?
250 double-sided 16pt paper cards are $74.89, about $0.30 a card, and 100 double-sided 0.025 inch aluminum cards are $256.79, about $2.57 a card. Paper single-sided and double-sided are the same price. The aluminum rows below are the double-sided 0.025 inch ladder. The product page also offers 0.040 inch aluminum. That heavier card is not priced in this table.
| Cards | Price |
|---|---|
| 50 paper cards, 16pt, single or double sided | $53.49 |
| 100 paper cards, 16pt, single or double sided | $64.19 |
| 250 paper cards, 16pt, single or double sided | $74.89 |
| 500 paper cards, 16pt, single or double sided | $96.29 |
| 1,000 paper cards, 16pt, single or double sided | $117.69 |
| 50 aluminum cards, 0.025 in, double sided | $149.79 |
| 100 aluminum cards, 0.025 in, double sided | $256.79 |
| 250 aluminum cards, 0.025 in, double sided | $534.99 |
| 500 aluminum cards, 0.025 in, double sided | $845.29 |
| 1,000 aluminum cards, 0.025 in, double sided | $1,423.09 |
Fifty paper cards are about $1.07 each. One thousand paper cards are about $0.12 each. Fifty aluminum cards are about $3.00 each, 250 are about $2.14 each, 500 are about $1.69 each, and 1,000 are about $1.42 each. Do not apply a paper per-card figure to an aluminum order, or the reverse.
Larger paper packs are on the same card: 2,000 are $181.89 (about $0.09 each) and 3,000 are $224.69 (about $0.07 each), still 16pt, single or double sided at the same price. More paper quantities exist on the product page between these steps. This article quotes only the totals published for 50, 100, 250, 500, 1,000, 2,000, and 3,000.
The business card cost guide is the longer price article. Order aluminum on the aluminum business cards page when metal is the decision.
Flat $10 ground shipping to any US address is added once per order. Cards are printed in the USA. Production is 48 hours after proof approval, before transit.
How Do You Order and Proof Printed Business Cards?
Order paper or aluminum cards, then approve the free digital proof. Inline Graphics sells paper and aluminum cards, not digital or NFC cards. The closest thing we print is a paper or aluminum card with a QR code in the artwork.
There is no production setup fee. A file or image you already have, including a layout with a QR code, is prepared through AI image to print for $14.99 per item. That is once per card order, not once per side, so a double-sided paper card is not two artwork charges. Design it for me is $29.99 and includes two revisions. It is free when the item is $499 or more. That covers the aluminum packs of 250 ($534.99), 500 ($845.29), and 1,000 ($1,423.09). The 50 and 100 aluminum packs, and every paper quantity quoted above including 3,000 at $224.69, are under $499, so Design it for me stays $29.99 on those lines.
The free digital proof arrives after the order is placed. Open the QR destination from the proof and scan an actual-size printout. Read the phone number out loud. Production is 48 hours after you approve it, and then the order ships for a flat $10. Transit days are not part of that 48 hours.
