T-Shirt Print Size Guide: Front, Back and Left Chest

What T-Shirt Print Size Works for Each Placement?
Inline Graphics can print up to 12.5 x 15.7 inches on the front of a custom t-shirt. One Bella Canvas 100% cotton shirt in white or black, printed on the front only or on the front and back, is $42.79. Sizes run S to 3XL, with flat $10 shipping.
Placement changes the artwork's shape and visual weight. A front graphic, back message, and left-chest mark each need different proportions and open space.
Use these dimensions as planning points:
- Full front: 10 to 12 inches wide and 12 to 15 inches tall is common general practice for adult shirts.
- Full back: 10 to 12 inches wide and 12 to 15 inches tall is a common design range. Our site does not state a maximum back area, so ask about the exact artwork before treating any number as a production limit.
- Left chest: about 4 x 4 inches is our artwork spec for a left chest logo. A square mark may also be 3 to 4 inches tall, while a wide name may be shorter.
A wide wordmark and a tall illustration can use the same width but look very different on a shirt.
The custom t-shirt product page offers Bella Canvas 100% cotton shirts from S to 3XL in white or black. One shirt can have a front print or a front and back print. Direct-to-garment printing supports full color without a per-color charge.

How Big Should a Front T-Shirt Design Be?
A full-front adult design commonly starts around 10 to 12 inches wide, with Inline Graphics allowing up to 12.5 x 15.7 inches on the front. Use the full height only when the artwork needs it. A horizontal company logo may look balanced at a much shorter height.
Measure the visible artwork and state the physical width and height you want it to print. Transparent space can be deliberate positioning space, so the canvas edge alone does not define the visible design size.
Leave room under the collar. Confirm the final position on the digital mockup sent after ordering.
How Big Should a Back T-Shirt Design Be?
A common full-back design is about 10 to 12 inches wide and 12 to 15 inches tall, but those numbers are general practice rather than an Inline Graphics production limit. The site does not publish a maximum back print area. Use the contact page to check a specific back design.
Build the back for viewing distance. Use larger type and fewer lines than a flyer. If people must stand close, the design carries too much detail.
Keep the artwork clear of the collar and side seams. Front and back art can share colors without sharing a layout. A small front mark and a larger back message work well when each side has one clear job.
What Size Should a Left-Chest Print Be?
Our artwork spec sets a left chest logo at about 4 x 4 inches, with the height set by the logo's proportions. A compact badge may sit close to 3 x 3 inches, while a wide company name may be 4 inches wide and much shorter.
Remove tiny taglines before enlarging the whole mark. The symbol and company name should remain clear from a normal conversation distance.
The chest area narrows on smaller shirts. Keep the same placement relationship across the size run, then reduce the artwork when it crowds the sleeve or center line.
How Should a Design Change by Shirt Size?
Adjust a design when one size crowds an S or looks lost on a 3XL. Start on a middle garment, compare every shirt, and keep the aspect ratio locked.
For S and M shirts, reduce the art if it approaches the side seams or dominates the chest. For L and XL, the base size often provides the intended balance. For 2XL and 3XL, a modest increase may help, but the front still must remain within 12.5 x 15.7 inches.
Do not stretch only the width or height to fill space. Distorted circles, faces, and letterforms are easy to notice on fabric. Scale the complete design proportionally and let open shirt space remain around it.
If a mixed-size order needs more than one artwork scale, request each scale and confirm it on the ordered digital mockup before approval. A phone screen alone cannot show the physical type size.
How Do You Set Up T-Shirt Artwork at Final Size?
Prepare a transparent-background PNG at 300 dpi at the intended print dimensions.
- Choose the final physical width and height for the visible artwork.
- Build raster artwork at 300 dpi at those final dimensions.
- Export a transparent-background PNG so the shirt can show around the design.
- Check the PNG over light and dark backgrounds for unwanted white areas.
- Send one file per placement: one for the front, and a second file when the back prints too.
For the largest front area, 12.5 x 15.7 inches at 300 dpi equals 3750 x 4710 pixels. Smaller artwork should also use 300 dpi at its own final size. Keep letters and outlines strong enough for cotton fabric because thin strokes can soften after printing.
An existing file or image is processed through AI image to print for $14.99 once per item, meaning once per cart line and never once per side. Design it for me is +$29.99 with two revisions and is free when the item itself is $499 or more. There is no production setup fee.
What Does One Custom T-Shirt Cost?
One Bella Canvas 100% cotton shirt in any size from S to 3XL, in white or black, is $42.79 for the front only or the front and back. There is no minimum for this direct-to-garment order and no per-color charge.

This guide focuses on dimensions. The custom t-shirt cost guide covers quantity pricing in detail. For another uniform option, the embroidered polo cost guide explains stitched apparel and its minimum.
How Do Proof, Production, and Shipping Work?
Production takes 1 to 5 business days after proof approval, excluding transit. The free digital mockup comes after ordering, and nothing prints until it is approved.
Review the shirt color, size, print side, dimensions, placement, spelling, and transparency. For a two-sided shirt, inspect both sides. The $14.99 artwork charge still applies once to the item or cart line, never once to each side.
Inline Graphics does not provide a free mockup before an order. It also does not provide a physical sample or physical proof. The digital mockup is the approval view for the ordered shirt.
Shipping is a flat $10 to any US address. Transit follows production, so plan from the proof approval date and leave room for delivery. Do not promise an arrival date by counting only the 1 to 5 business day production window.
When Should You Ask for Screen Printing?
Ask for a screen-printing quote when you need 10 or more shirts with the same design. Larger matching runs can be cheaper through that process, but the price is quoted through the contact path and should not be estimated from the one-shirt direct-to-garment price.
For one to nine shirts, the online custom t-shirt product gives a clear direct-to-garment path with no minimum and no per-color charge. The custom apparel hub lets you compare the printed shirt with the embroidered polo before choosing the garment and decoration method.
Choose the placement, set the artwork at final dimensions, and check it against every shirt size. That makes the digital mockup useful because the scale decisions are already clear.

Frequently Asked Questions
The largest front print area from Inline Graphics is 12.5 x 15.7 inches. A design can be smaller, and its aspect ratio may leave unused space within that area.
Our artwork spec sets a left chest logo at about 4 x 4 inches. A wide name can run shorter, so judge the final scale against the shirt size and approve the placement on the digital mockup after ordering.
A common back design is about 10 to 12 inches wide and 12 to 15 inches tall. These are general design dimensions, not an Inline Graphics back maximum. Ask about a specific back design through the contact page.
Not always. Compare the design against each garment size, reduce it when it crowds a smaller shirt, and enlarge it only when the larger shirt needs more visual balance.
Prepare raster artwork at 300 dpi at the final print dimensions. A 12.5 x 15.7 inch file at 300 dpi is 3750 x 4710 pixels, and a transparent-background PNG keeps the shirt visible around the design.
A free digital mockup comes with the order after it is placed. Production starts only after artwork approval, and Inline Graphics does not provide a physical sample or a physical proof.
