What Sizes Can a Custom Shape Magnet Be?

The seven sizes in the table are the ones you can pick in one tap. The page also takes a custom size you type in, up to 96 inches on a side. A typed size is still a bounding box: the shape has to fit inside the width and height you enter. This page does not price a typed size in the table above, so enter it on the product page and read the total there before you approve the proof.

Use the small boxes for a handout. A 4 x 6 in or a 6 x 9 in shape is giveaway scale, the size of a large business card or a bit bigger, and both are $41.39 for one. A 9 x 12 in is still something a person can hold and put on a refrigerator. Use 12 x 18 in and up when the magnet has to be read on a door, a cabinet, or across a counter. A 24 x 36 in shape is a large panel, the biggest listed box, at $212.59.

Ordering more than one changes the total, and larger orders step to a lower price for the area. The table is the price of one. Set the quantity on the product page for a stack of giveaways, and use that total rather than multiplying a row by the count.

A plain rectangle is a different product. The vehicle magnets page sells five ready-made rectangles, singly or as a matched pair, for a car or truck door. If you want a box with square or rounded corners and no contour, order that. If you want a leaf, a cup, a bee, or the outline of a logo, stay on the custom page.

What Does the Size Mean if the Magnet Is Not a Rectangle?

The size is the box the shape is cut out of. A 12 x 18 in taco is a taco that fits inside 12 by 18 inches. A 9 x 12 in leaf is a leaf that fits inside 9 by 12 inches. You pay for that box. Contour cutting adds a one-time $20 setup fee per design.

Draw the shape so it uses the box. A tiny logo floating in the middle of a 12 x 18 in file, with a cut line tight around the logo, still orders as a 12 x 18 in magnet if that is the size you picked, but the finished piece will only be as big as the outline. Pick the box that matches the finished shape you want in your hand, then draw the shape out to that box.

Where Does a Custom Magnet Hold, and How Does It Come Off?

It holds flat on a truck door, a trailer, a filing cabinet, or a refrigerator. The product is the same 30 mil magnetic vinyl our vehicle magnets use, the heavy stock, which is why it holds flat on a door. The product page shows three shapes on a refrigerator door, a mascot on a van door, and a stack of cup-shaped giveaways on a counter, which are the three places these magnets usually end up.

Set the magnet on the metal and press it flat. Peel it from a tip or a corner of the shape when you want it off. We print the magnet and ship it. You put it on the metal. Nothing in the order is an install visit.

What File Should You Send for a Contour-Cut Magnet?

Send a file that already has the shape you want cut: a logo with a clear silhouette, a leaf, a simple mascot. PDF or the original art file is the best send. A photo of a printed piece, or a logo copied off a website, usually does not have a clean edge, and the cutter follows that edge. Keep every word inside the shape, with space between the letters and the cut line. A phone number set along the edge of a leaf gets clipped, because the blade follows the outline and a leaf edge is not straight. Thick lettering survives better than a hairline script. One name and one phone number is enough on a 4 x 6 in giveaway. A 12 x 18 in door shape can carry a short line of services under the name, still inside the outline.

Tell us the bounding box in the order, and make the art fill that box. If the shape only fills half the box, say so on the proof note so we cut the shape you drew rather than a box you did not want. Approve the proof only after you have looked at the cut line all the way around.

What Do We See on Custom Magnet Proofs?

The miss we see is type set on the outline. A buyer sends a handsome leaf or a mascot, then places the phone number so the digits touch the edge that will be cut. On screen the number looks complete. After the contour cut, the last digit or the underline is gone, because the size was a box and the product is the shape inside it.

Pull the type in until you can see a margin of the artwork color between every letter and the cut line. Do that especially on points, wings, and the narrow part of a letterform logo. If the shape is the logo itself, with no extra background, the letters are the cut line, so those letters need to be thick enough that a small shift in the cut does not open a hole in a stroke.

The second thing the proof is for, and it is the same problem, is a rectangular file ordered as a custom magnet. If the art is a box, the cut is a box, and a rectangle belongs on the vehicle magnet page. Custom magnets are the shape. Look at the proof and ask whether the edge you see is the edge you want to hold.

How Long Does a Custom Magnet Take?

Production is 48 hours after you approve the proof. The 48 hours are production, not the day the package arrives. Shipping is a flat $10 to any US address after the magnet is made.
