No, there is no adhesive involved. Keep both the panel and the back of the magnet clean and dry, and take the magnet off to wash the vehicle, which lets grit and moisture out from underneath instead of trapping it.
They are worth it on any vehicle that sees highway speed. Air catches a square corner first, and a corner that lifts once tends to keep lifting.
Only to flat steel. Aluminum body panels, fiberglass, and plastic doors are not magnetic, and a curved or heavily creased panel will not hold the full sheet. If the panel is not steel, adhesive vinyl graphics or a vehicle wrap are the right answer instead.
